CEO Al Baldwin Named 2021 Chula Vista Champion

Developer of Otay Ranch Recognized for Leading $120,000 Fundraising Effort Supporting South Bay Community Services’ Food Program Providing Thousands of Local Residents in Need with Food During Pandemic

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (March x, 2021) - Baldwin & Sons, the builder and developer creating thriving communities for Southern California families for over six decades, announced today that its founder and CEO Al Baldwin has been recognized as a 2021 Chula Vista Community Champion. The recognition celebrates Al Baldwin’s extraordinary efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic in support of the local Chula Vista community.

The City of Chula Vista names “community champions” annually, recognizing individuals who live, work and play in Chula Vista and who have gone above and beyond for their neighbors and community during these challenging times.

Al Baldwin, along with the leadership team of Baldwin & Sons, successfully raised over $120,000 in support of the local Chula Vista non-profit South Bay Community Services (SBCS). All funds raised were donated to SBCS to support the non-profit’s Food Program which feeds individuals in need in San Diego County and which dramatically expanded its giving to meet demand resulting from COVID-19 impacts. Al Baldwin’s team proudly exceeded its $100,000 fundraising target in collaboration with valued colleagues, associates and business partners who all joined forces to contribute to the regional effort.

“We learned early on in the pandemic that South Bay Community Services urgently needed assistance,” says Baldwin. “Their food program typically feeds 500 people per month, but once COVID-19 hit, they began assisting over 20,000 per month. No family should be without food and I knew we were in a unique position to help. I am so grateful to everyone on our team as well as our clients and business partners, who jumped in to make the fundraise effort for SBCS such a huge success.”

Baldwin & Sons donated $25,000 to the campaign. Jose Capati, Melissa Hazlett, George Johsz, Nick Lee, Steven Moffat, Bendt Norby, Dawn Norton, JoLynn Nunes, Mark Rhyme, Tammy Riley and Alan Rye are among the key members of the Baldwin & Sons team who, along with Al Baldwin, are responsible for the successful fundraise effort.
